Pre-poured agar petri dishes – 20 pre-poured LME agar petri dishes. If you’re not able to create your own sterilised agar plates, these are ideal for you! Freshly prepared per order, we use 90mm triple-vented disposable petri dishes. These petri dishes are intended for single use and cannot be re-used in an autoclave/pressure cooker.

LME Agar plates are definitely the best way to go from spores to live and healthy mycelium as they allow you to isolate healthy mycelium growth from any potential contaminants (spore syringes are never guaranteed to be entirely sterile). They can be used to test liquid culture and spore syringes for contamination or can be used to grow fresh mycelium either from liquid culture or by cloning ready-colonised agar. Note that once the plates are opened and the parafilm which is used to seal the dishes is removed, they must be re-sealed with fresh parafilm (one single layer helps avoid excess condensation) as parafilm is intended for single use only. As an alternative, some growers use micropore tape or even grafting tape – though we would always advise parafilm where possible.
